Stand Out of Our Light: Online Precept

The Princeton Club of Michigan and the Princeton Women’s Network (PWN) invite you to attend an online precept on the book "Stand Out of Our Light: Freedom and Resistance in the Attention Economy" by James Williams. This informal discussion will be a pilot to bring small groups of Princeton alumnae together virtually. President Eisgruber picked this book as his pre-read selection for all incoming Princeton freshmen this past fall. Please join conversation host and Ann Arbor resident, Stephanie Blackburn Freeth '97 S95, for an online video-based precept-like discussion of the book on March 25th from noon-1:00 EST. Professor Kornhauser is a pioneering researcher in automated transportation and an expert in automotive engineering systems. He is the lead faculty adviser to Princeton Autonomous Vehicle Engineering (PAVE), an undergraduate student-led research group devoted to autonomous vehicles and is an expert in the evolving use of artificial intelligence in the safe and efficient operation of various modes of transportation, especially road transportation.

Princeton Alumni and Princeternship Event - Jan 2019

In January 2019, Quicken Loans hosted 10 Princeton students in their Detroit office as part of the Princeternship program. The Princeternship program is an experiential learning opportunity facilitated by the Office of Career Services at Princeton University.

During the week-long program, students met with senior leaders, worked on a project, and interacted with fellow Ivy League students. As part of the program, Quicken Loans hosted a networking event for Princeton students and alumni in collaboration with the Office of Career Services and the Princeton Club of Michigan.

The networking event was an opportunity for students to connect with alumni in the Detroit area and to learn from their career paths.

Princeton Prize in Race Relations - 2018 Michigan

Princeton Prize in Race Relations Committee of Michigan honored two local students at the Princeton Club of Michigan Annual Dinner in April 2018.

Michigan (Detroit): Maren Roeske, a senior at Grosse Pointe South High School, is the founder of SEEDS (Student Empowerment: Education for a Diverse Society), an anti-racism education program that targets individual and interpersonal racism. She also co-founded RATE (Restorative Action Through Exchange) to foster connections between her school and University Prep High School in Detroit.

Roeske and the winners from other states were honored at a symposium at Princeton University in late April.

Professor Littman is a professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University. His popular Freshman Seminar on Motorcycle design has captivated students outside of engineering. The class restores a vintage motorcycle and learns a lot about engineering and hands-on learning along the way.

Michael Littman, Professor/Department Representative, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. His lecture topics include “Art and Science of Motorcycle Design: A Freshman Seminar", "Teaching Engineering with Antiques", "Engineering in the Modern World" (This would be the introductory lecture or perhaps the final lecture in his course CEE 102), "Smithsonian Invention Kits: Re-creation of historical engineering objects using 3D printers and laser cutters" (This is a current project that he collaborates on concerning STEM education in K-12), A condensed version of his CEE 102 lecture on Railroads - that lecture includes discussion of the Transcontinental Railroad (completed May 1869 at Promontary Point Utah).

A Gathering with President Eisgruber in Detroit - June 27, 2017

Over two hundred Princeton alumni and guests attended a gathering with Princeton University President Christopher L. Eisgruber '83, on June 27. 2017 in the spectacular Rivera Court at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

The evening started with a reception, dinner, and then over dessert Ford Motor Company Executive Chairman William Clay Ford, Jr. '79 interviewed President Eisgruber and then opened it up to questions from the audience.

We enjoyed reconnecting with the University, learning about new initiatives, participating in an open discussion, the matchless setting, and of course seeing each other.
